Apartment
developments have formed a considerable proportion of the Practice’s
workload over the years. Projects have included blocks of new build
flats in Leeds and Oakenshaw, the conversion of former public houses
at Bishop Auckland and Wakefield, and the conversion of various properties
in Elland, Bingley, Leeds, Shipley, Littleborough, West Vale and the
Shibden Valley.
Conversion
of Public House to Apartments, Wakefield
This former
public house, situated in Green Belt on the outskirts of Wakefield,
was converted by ETL Developments Ltd into 8 one and two bedroom apartments
over two floors. The works comprised extensive re-modelling of the two
storey stone built part of the property and the re-building of the single
storey accommodation, with the addition of pitched roofs and rendered
walling complementing the natural stone facade of the original structure.
Luxury
Apartments, Halifax
A
Grade II* listed, stone built, Caroline Mansion, constructed around
1680, situated on the south side of upper Shibden Dale. The house was
last partly occupied in 1986 and has since been totally unoccupied and
at the mercy of the elements until it is now in a state of dereliction
and is described as a 'Building at Risk'.
After protracted negotiations with Calderdale Council, English Heritage
and West Yorkshire Archaeology Service, Calendar House Developments
eventually submitted applications for Planning and Listed Building Consent
to convert the property to six luxury apartments with common basement
storage areas. Full approvals were granted in July 2005.
