West Park School, Spondon, Derby This Academy-status secondary school in Spondon, Derby has a campus comprising individual buildings in various styles, the oldest dating from the 1970's. The Practice is working with the School on a programme of refurbishment in order to enhance the life of the buildings and to improve the quality of the internal environment. Currently, the single-storey Humanities and Languages building is being re-roofed. The work comprises the replacement of single glazed metal-framed rooflights with triple skin polycarbonate pyramids on insulated and ventilated kerbs. The existing roof covering is overlaid with high performance insulation boards and finished with two layers of polyester reinforced elastomeric bitumen membranes. When completed, the roof will achieve current thermal standards. Refurbishment will continue with complete replacement of the single-glazed aluminium curtain walling with a modern architectural glazing system, which will not only deliver improved thermal and sustainable performance but will comply with a wide array of other standards on ventilation, security, acoustics, weathering and durability. |
